Students in Latin 5 Honors will study Latin prose and poetry. Authors to be read include Caesar, Cicero, Pliny the Younger, Catullus, Vergil and Ovid. Students will translate and analyze the Latin texts and discuss them in their literary, cultural and historical contexts. Students will continue to develop their understanding and application of complex grammar and syntax. Students will learn the rules of scansion and meter in Latin and apply them to poems written in hendecasyllables, elegiac couplets, and dactylic hexameter. The National Latin Exam is offered in March.
